if you do the crime.....

I have a lot of things going on right now and there is one thing that has been bothering me the past few days and that is my police record. Yes....nice sweet innocent Dawn had a record.

5 1/2 years ago I was at the courthouse to drop some papers off (I forget what it was about now). Anyways, I pulled into a parking space and was letting my brother know that I would only be a minute and he was going to watch Anna in the car for me. It was a nice day in April so my car windows were down.

A woman was getting into her brothers car next to me when she slammed her car door into my car and did not even bother to look over to see if she did any damage. She did not realize that I was sitting in the car. I made a comment to my brother "can you believe that bitch just hit my car with her car door?" The next thing I know she was screaming and walking to my side of the car and tried to reach her hand in the window to hit me. I rolled my car window up and pulled out of the spot. I did not want to get my daughter upset so I was just going to leave.

She stood in front of my car when I pulled out of the parking spot so I could not go anywhere. I figured that I would pull up to the front of the courthouse to find a cop. She jumped on the hood of my car! I did not know what to do this woman was crazy! I drove with her on my hood for about 20 feet in the parking lot so I could find a cop.

She got off my hood and went to a police officer and I went up to another. When she got done she bought herself a hotdog and I got locked up for 2nd degree assault. I got bailed out that night and court was set for August.

I had to get a public defender. When I met with my public defender she told me that she had no information about the woman. When I mentioned that I wanted a jury trial she told me that was not a good idea. I figured that she knew what she was doing so I trusted her judgment.

On the day of court I had my brother with me as a witness. They never talked to my brother. The woman was in court with not witness. I got sentenced the 10 days but I only had to do 7 days because I was a good girl while I was locked up and did not cause any problems.

I found out later on that the reason they did not want to do a jury trial was because she worked in that courthouse as a judges secretary....so she knew my judge, my public defender, the arresting police officer, etc...... I guess you get the point.

I just got fucked in that whole situation. This will haunt me for the rest of my life and it is just not fair. This is just one more reason that I do not trust cops, judges or lawyers.

Ouch! How long does the record stay on your record, as it were? Have you had it come back to bite you in the years since it happened? And more importantly, what have you learned from it? I guess the most important lesson is: don't get into a fight outside the courtrooms!

Here via Michele's today :-)

Hey there! Michele sent me, but I was actually here earlier today.

Wonder if you could go through some sort of process to get a pardon and get this removed from your 'permanent record' as it were?

I don't think I can ever get it off my record. It hurts when I go job hunting and I learned not to let a crazy bitch jump on the hood of my car!

with the whole drama being againt a court employee I do not think that they will remove it...I have thought about it but the cost to have it looked into is just not worth it....they could still deny it and I have lost enough money and time on this.

Oh Man, that STINKS!!! How about getting a pardon? It was only 2nd degree assault afterall?

I hear you about cops. I had a cop kick me really hard in the chin while I was pushed down by another cop. They were both women! I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I should have filed a complaint, but I knew that because I'd been drinking (not drunk) they'd take the cops' side.

Gotta love the justice system.

Here from Michele's.

It's amazing what people get away with when they "know" somebody. That woman sounds like a danger to people, and I'm sure your only one victim of her psychosis.

It's horrifying you got locked up! It's just such a major injustice, you mistrust is not misplaced.

The whole system is screwed up. Honestly. And the ones who know how to work the system are at a major advantage...
