a very busy week

I have been so busy this week. I am sorry I have not posted anything but I have been so tired and this was Anna's last week in school so life has just been crazy! Anna is on the phone now with everyone she can think of to let them know she is now in third grade. I have books for her to work on this summer to get her ready for next year. I am not happy with the school system Anna is in. The school looks like a really good school on paper but they don't teach the kids the way I think that they should be taught. Anna's teacher had not control over those kids. To let the truth be told Anna was going to get passed no matter what because it would look bad if they had to hold a kid back. Anna's teacher never made them complete work in class....if she did not finish it then they would just have her bring it home so I could make her do it. I am not sure what they did make her do. I was looking back a t all her old classwork papers she brought home today and I am really sick to look at it....why do I even bother to send her to school?

I don't know if anyone else out there has this problem but I guess I will have to be her teacher this summer to make sure she is ready for next year. We will be busy!

Hi Dawn,
Wow, it does sound like a busy week being that it was Anna's last week in school and all. I think it's great that you are going to work with her over the summer to get her ready for third grade. I'm not sure what to say about the school system issue though.

I remember when I was in school (no smart comments about how long ago that was) but the same system existed than too, unfortunately. I remember some kids that did nothing in class, no work, but still got passed. You'd have to kill someone to fail, I think the teachers feel like if they don't pass everyone it reflects poorly on them, when the reverse is true - if they just pass everyone, regardless of deserving or not, that reflects badly on the teachers and the entire school system.

oooh.. that's a hard one. does the school ever ask for feedback from parents? 'coz my daughter's does and i always find something to complain about. LOL!

it's great that you got books for your girl. i do that, too, to prepare mine for the next grade level.

good luck with the school thing...*hugs*

Well that sucks! I will have my credential next fall so I have always taught my kids outside the classroom. So far I have been lucky and they have had good teachers...good luck with your Anna and congrats on being a big THIRD Grader. YAY!

Hey Dawn!

I know what you mean about school systems....the ones down here just bury the kids in homework...half of which they don't know how to do. And let me tell you, I don't make much of a math teacher!

I have one going into third grade, too, and have not been thrilled with his school, either. Good luck:-)

I am a retired elementary teacher and I can tell you that it nearly impossible to hold a child back a grade. If I needed to have a child repeat a grade, it meant having the parents agree. Getting parents to agree was like pulling hens teeth. ( This is in response to John985's comment)Does your daughter's school have Parent/Teacher conferences? My heart goes out to you because I know how difficult the situation must be and how much you care. I pray that next year you will find your daughter with a loving and caring teacher.
